Top 2013 Wedding Trends

What are some of the top wedding trends for 2013?

As a mainstream wedding photography studio based here in the geographic center of the country (Springfield, MO), we certainly don't claim to be out on the cutting edge.

But when it comes to major trends that appeal to a wide variety of brides planning 2013 weddings--particularly here in the Midwest--we certainly have some ideas based on what we've been seeing lately.

Ready?  Here's our list:

1. Mint Green Wedding Colors

Mint Green Wedding Colors
We've already seen it popping up in many weddings we've photographed this year in Springfield and Branson, Missouri.  And nearly everyone in the wedding industry agrees that there's a lot more Mint Green to come in 2013.

Whether you use it as accents in cookies and table decorations, or as a more prominent color in your bouquet, bridesmaids gowns, or wedding cake, Mint Green is most certainly destined to be the wedding color of the year.

2. Wedding Cake Ribbons

In a trend that appears to be inspired by DIY photos and sharing on Pinterest, nearly every wedding cake we've photographed lately has a ribbon wrapped around it instead of more ornate, traditional floral decorations.

While a ribbon will add a little extra challenge to your cake cutting, it's a great way to incorporate your wedding colors on a white cake, while also keeping things a little more casual.

3. Going Non-Traditional

Black Bridesmaids Gowns

From colored bridal gowns, to bridesmaids in black gowns... we've seen a lot of couples going out of their way to "do their own thing" on their big day, as opposed to sticking with tradition.  And the trend extends far beyond colors!

Tradition says that the bride and groom should never see each other before the ceremony.  Often, however--with the best interests of their guests in mind--many couples are choosing to have their "formal" pictures shot several hours before the ceremony, so their guests don't have to wait afterwards.

Brides are also skipping formal introductions, bouquet tosses, and other traditions at their receptions.

It's not at all unusual to see a couple cut their wedding cake before their first dance, or save the toasts for later in the evening when everyone has "loosened up" a bit.

And speaking of loosening up... we've seen everything from mixed drinks, to beer steins, to spiked punch at the head table, instead of more traditional champagne.

Be unique.  Be comfortable.  Have fun.  After all, it's your special day!

4. Brides and Bridesmaids in Boots

While many trends tend to start on the coasts and move their way toward the center of the country, this one appears to be heading in the other direction.

Boots are definitely "in" at recent weddings we've photographed here in Springfield and Branson, Missouri, along with other non-traditional footwear like heals and even sneakers.

And it's not just the locals.  It's becoming common to see ladies from other parts of the country wearing boots at their destination weddings in this part of the country, too!

Watch for lots more to come!

5. The Vintage Look

Mansion at Elfindale Wedding Photo

While we have yet to photograph a full-on vintage wedding here in Missouri, we're definitely seeing vintage elements in many weddings, in terms of both venues and attire.

Among wedding venues offering a vintage feel, Victorian settings are very popular, such as the Mansion at Elfindale in Springfield, MO where we shot the photo above.  The bride, by the way, is wearing her mother's wedding gown, and her grandmother's jewelry.

The Bottom Line

If there's one element that all of the above 2013 wedding trends have in common, it's individuality.

Professionals in the wedding industry have long recognized and maintained that every wedding is unique and different.  Now, based on the trends we're seeing, it appears that brides have fully embraced that idea, too:)

These trends are of course just what we're seeing in our neck of the woods, and we welcome your comments and input... whether you agree or disagree!

A Perfect Wedding in Branson, MO

Jeremy and Allison were married in Kimberling City, MO on Saturday, September 1st.  As you may recall, that was the day that the remnants of Hurricane Isaac moved through the Ozarks!

There were of course a lot of clouds and rain in the area all morning long.  But, just as the couple's 2PM ceremony was about to begin, patches of blue sky and sunshine began to appear overhead.

It was a great metaphor for Jeremy and Allison's beautiful wedding, which was perfect in every way.

I began shooting their wedding pictures about an hour before the ceremony at Our Lady of the Cove Catholic Church in Kimberling City, MO.

Afterwards, we went outside to shoot some portraits in the courtyard before heading to the reception at the Radisson Hotel in Branson, MO.

Here's a sample of the final wedding pictures we shot for this wonderful couple...

Springfield MO Wedding Photography: The Marriott Courtyard

Our latest Springfield MO wedding photography session took us to the Marriott Courtyard hotel.  As you'll see, it's a terrific location for a wedding!

I began photographing Ashley's big day as she was making her final preparations upstairs in her room...

The ceremony took place in the hotel's onsite banquet facility, where Ashley and Brad were married in front of their close family and friends...

Afterwards, we took advantage of the beautiful outdoor courtyard to take some photos of Ashley, Brad, and their wedding party...

And then it was time for the reception, which featured a beautiful (and tasty!) wedding cake...

...and lots of fun on the dance floor, courtesy of emcee Scott Lewis, from D and E Music of Springfield!

These are of course just a small sample of the over 170 retouched and color-corrected wedding photos we delivered to Ashley and Brad, and I had a great time shooting each and every one of them.

I'd be honored to serve as your Springfield, MO wedding photographer, too!

Whether you're planning a similar wedding and reception at the Marriott Courtyard in Springfield, or anywhere else in the greater Ozarks region, be sure to check out our Springfield wedding photography pictures, packages, and prices online.

Springfield MO Wedding Photography: 50th Anniversary

While I do specialize in Springfield and Branson Missouri wedding photography, I love it when opportunities come along to do something a little different.

Such was the case last month, when I was quite honored to serve as the photographer for Bill and Joyce's 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration at the Second Baptist Church here in Springfield.

Here are a few photos from this very special couple's celebration...

Bill and Joyce's celebration was attended by about 100 of their closest friends and family members... which is a real testament to the impact they've made on so many people throughout their 50 years of marriage.  I was a true honor to serve as their photographer.  Please join me in congratulating Bill, Joyce, and their entire family!

You can see more pictures from Bill and Joyce's celebration, along with photographs from weddings throughout the Springfield MO, Branson MO, and entire Ozarks region on our Springfield, MO Wedding Photography website.  Whether you're planning a similar celebration, or a wedding in the area, I'd be honored to serve as your photographer, too!

As always, thank you very much for reading--
